Politico reports Sentor Biden stated,
“No coal plants here in America,” he said. “Build them, if they’re going to build them, over there [China]. Make them clean.”
“We’re not supporting clean coal,” he said of himself and Obama. They do, on paper, support clean coal.
The answer seems to play into John McCain’s case that Obama has been saying “no” to new sources of energy.
Not only is it a ‘no’ to another souce of energy, but it also isn’t the official position of the Obama/Biden ticket. This adds more confusion the Obama/Biden energy policy that has not been particularly clear on the position of off-shore drilling.
Senator Biden seems to be struggling with his position as number two on the ticket as he opposed the official position of the Obama/Biden ticket last week when he said he opposed the economic rescue bill proposed by the Bush administration, while Senator Obama supports it. Earlier in the morning, he stated he thought an anti-McCain ad run by the Obama campaign a couple weeks ago was ‘terrible’, and prior to that he stated that Hillary Clinton would have been a better VP pick than himself. Imagine if Governor Palin contradicted the ticket’s positions, criticized her own selection as VP, and strongly disagreed with the campaign’s advertisements. Think the media would react as passively with Governor Palin as they are with Senator Biden?
You know Joe Biden has a reputation of speaking his mind, right. I think that is why Obama picked him. He wants someone on the ticket who wouldn’t kiss his ass or build him up, but someone who would point out things that Obama doesn’t see. Joe Biden has been in Congress as long as McCain so the media “react as passively ” to him because they already know about Biden not able to hold his tongue,
But even saying all that I like the way Biden is handling his position. Maybe that’s because the media is not giving him the same exposure like they are giving Palin.
