The Las Vegas Review Journal reports in its article We Wrote the Bill that…
Congressional Budget Office has determined that only 7 percent of the $356 billion in current infrastructure spending proposals would be spent this year, with 31 percent spent next year.
Meanwhile, congressional Democrats are showing no remorse in larding up the $825 billion bill with $50 million in arts subsidies, $200 million for teacher bonuses and a whopping $15.6 billion worth of Pell Grants for college students.
Now Fox is reporting Republicans Object to Stimulus Dollars for ACORN
Republican lawmakers are raising concerns that ACORN, the low-income advocacy group under investigation for voter registration fraud, could be eligible for billions in aid from the economic stimulus proposal working its way through the House.
While the outlay is not specifically designated for ACORN, if the President and/or the Democrats want any sembalence of bipartisanship they need to specifically state that ACORN will not benefit financially for aiding Dems in the past election. A rediculous amount of waste is bad enough, without infusing the bill with the perception of a payoff. President Obama met with Republicans about this bill, and hopefully he is serious about it being more than a wish list for Congressional Democrats. If that is the case, ACORN is the first (but not only) item he needs to make clear is an unacceptable recipient of energency economic funds.
He said he would hook up ACORN during the campaign. Wow, a kept campaign promise…
