Political absurdity is on full display with the health care debate. There is an artificial August deadline, accompanied by the requisite dramatic hyperbole about how little Timmy’s crutches will be kicked out from underneath him if a bill doesn’t pass in the next couple weeks. Budget numbers are in full spin. Even with the non-partisan CBO stating that current proposals would be fiscally unsustainable, claims still come in that the ‘plan’ would be ‘budget-neutral.’
Yet the main thing lacking in the current health care reform debate is an actual plan. There is no actual bill, despite the herculean effort sell this non-existent bill. There are a variety of proposals that leave supporters, detractors, and curious bystanders trying to read the tea leaves. At risk of being called a simpleton, here are a few of my requests of Washington.
1. Don’t try to sell a plan that doesn’t exist.
2. Put your plan (or plans) in writing, and make them accessible to the public.
3. Do the math. Make it public. Creative or emotive mathematical theatrics are not necessary.
4. To Senators and Congressmen alike; Please Read the Bill Before You Vote!
Where is the actual bill for the citizen to read for themselves? all you get is portions of the supposed bill that various proponents reference in either their opposition or support? Why is this so complicated? If the bill encompasses what the pretender from chicago says why is it so large of a bill? Is it any wonder we can not trust these idiots in government! First we all know that whatever the gvt. touches will be a failure in its administration! This is virtually true with everything that they appropriate to themselves! The fact that they try to push this so quickly demonstrates that there is much that is being concealed. Hence the length of this mysterious bill. Surely any rational person who truly has the interest of all would move very cautiously with an item that is this important? Something is rotten in washington? Sadly the people are being abused once again by their elected officials! The only thing that is democratic in America is the vote. After that we are subjected to a subtle tyranny through lies, missinformation, guile and special interest. The bureaucracy is so dense and expansive the American citizen has no real access to the mechanisims that drive this inpenetrable system. We are left to trust an oligarchy of government aristocrats who will never bear the evils they impose on the rest of us. Washington should not be trusted especially with Health care!
