• Welcome Purple People

To me Purple People are those of us who are neither Republican Red nor Democrat Blue; we find ourselves in between. The internet often represents those on the far left or the far right; this site is for those of us in the middle.

Since there are a variety of non-conformists that consider themselves Independents, here's a clarification. The point of view of this blog is basically Realist/Libertarian light...

-Pro Small Government, bureaucracies tend to be wasteful and inefficient.

-Government should not be the morality police.

-Less waste, lower taxes. Taxes are okay if spent wisely. Roads and schools need funding. Be smart with my money and I won't complain.

-Government shouldn't babysit adults. Help kids and assist people who have serious problems, but stop trying to protect everyone from themselves.

-Foreign policy should be conducted by people with brains and experience. Think, don't be reckless and don't be politically motivated. Remember that the U.S. is not the only country in the world.

-Tone down the rhetoric and remember your manners. Play nicely and don't belittle people who disagree with you.

Biden: Paying High Taxes is Patriotic

Another unbelievable remark from from Senator Biden stating, that paying high taxes is ‘patriotic’.

Paying taxes is “patriotic,” Joe Biden says.

There could be some bigger patriots then, under the administration of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. The rival Republican team of John McCain and Sarah Palin have another word for it: “Painful.”

“Raising taxes in a tough economy isn’t patriotic,” McCain said at a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, today. “It’s not a badge of honor. It’s just plain dumb.”

  1. He said “Wealthy people paying higher taxes is patriotic.” Meaning people making over 250k/year, but his comments were geared towards the millionaires in society.

Sad how conservatives are trying to spin his comments without revealing his entire quote.

  2. It doesn’t matter whether you are rich or poor or what income level you have. Paying your taxes is an obligation under the law. It doesn’t make you patriotic to fulfill your legal obligation. That is just a stupid remark by Biden!

When I file my tax return, I don’t feel patriotic, I feel like I have completed a task, like going to the DMV to renew a license, or some other such thing. Biden is an idiot for linking an administrative, legally obligatory task like paying taxes to patriotism.

Increasing taxes on the wealthy and corporations is bad tax policy. Who do you think pays the wages and buys most of the goods in this country? If you increase their taxes and decrease their net income, they will have less money to spend in the economy.

  3. Hey Chris,

That’s probably why Robert Wexler lives in Maryland, but claims to be a Florida resident. That way he can pay lower taxes.

    Such a patriot.

    Such a hypocrite.

  4. So what about people who get the Earned Income Tax Credit? I know several of them and, not only do they not pay taxes, they actually get free money from the government in lieu of taxes! I guess Biden is saying the poor are not as patriotic as the rich and middle class. And under Obama, aren’t the middle class supposed to get a tax cut? Wouldn’t that make the middle class less patriotic?

  5. Elizabeth,

Most of the goods in this country are bought by the strong middle class.

Most of the wages are paid by either corporations or small businesses.

  6. Recipients of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Campaign Contributions, 1989-2008

    Top three…

    Dodd, Christopher CT D $165,400
    Obama, Barack S IL D $126,349
    Kerry, John S MA D $111,000

  7. I guess that Obama and Biden are just grouping the rich in with people like themselves. They cannot find it in their hearts to actually voluntarily reach into their pockets and give to charitable organizations freely, so solve the shortfalls in helping those in need by enforcing it through taxes. I only wish as a middle income family that the same hand of the law would not be reaching into our retirement savings before we can use them and taking away more than half of what people spend a lifetime earning from their children.

  8. Obama proposed a capital gains tax of 28% during the primary season.Hillary Clinton chided him about that.
