Obama’s ‘Selfish’ Comment

ABC reports that Senator Obama in rejecting the claim that his ‘spread the wealth’ plan is socialistic called not wnating to pay higher taxes ‘selfish’.

“John McCain and Sarah Palin they call this socialistic,” Obama continued. “You know I don’t know when, when they decided they wanted to make a virtue out of selfishness.”

It’s unclear if this was a nod to the Ayn Rand book “The Virtue of Selfishness,” with all that the invocation of Rand implies.

It would seem to be, given the themes of Rand’s work, what happens when independent achievers are demonized.

Which would fit with this description of those who want to keep their hard-earned tax dollars as “selfish.”

Atlas may not be shrugging, but Obama is.

This comment probably was not intended as a slam; however what it shows, is that Senator Obama doesn’t understand working Americans. People who don’t want to high taxes because of selfishness or greed in most cases, they don’t want to pay high taxes because the government has a history of being wasteful. People don’t want their money allocated via a contrived system of need. Americans are a very generous group of people; people give incredible amounts of money to charities of their own volition. Are some people greedy and selfish? Absolutely. However, there are numerous people who are good generous folks who simply want the government out of their pocketbook and out of their life as much as possible. Big government is no comfort to working tax paying Americans.

  1. I just penned a long piece on the role of Marxism in the 2008 election.

Obama is following step by step the methods of Lenin and Mao. It is so sad because I wanted to believe that he was the candidate who would raise the level of discourse in our nation.
