• Welcome Purple People

To me Purple People are those of us who are neither Republican Red nor Democrat Blue; we find ourselves in between. The internet often represents those on the far left or the far right; this site is for those of us in the middle.

Since there are a variety of non-conformists that consider themselves Independents, here's a clarification. The point of view of this blog is basically Realist/Libertarian light...

-Pro Small Government, bureaucracies tend to be wasteful and inefficient.

-Government should not be the morality police.

-Less waste, lower taxes. Taxes are okay if spent wisely. Roads and schools need funding. Be smart with my money and I won't complain.

-Government shouldn't babysit adults. Help kids and assist people who have serious problems, but stop trying to protect everyone from themselves.

-Foreign policy should be conducted by people with brains and experience. Think, don't be reckless and don't be politically motivated. Remember that the U.S. is not the only country in the world.

-Tone down the rhetoric and remember your manners. Play nicely and don't belittle people who disagree with you.

Family Upset Obama Wears Their Son’s Bracelet

NewsBusters is reporting in their article Family Told Obama NOT To Wear Soldier Son’s Bracelet… Where is Media? that the family of Sergeant Ryan David Jopek whose name is on the bracelet Senator Obama wears does not want him speaking about their son in public. The father Brian Jopek stated in a radio interview that the family even asked Senator Obama to stop wearing his son’s bracelet.

Radio host Glenn Moberg of the show “Route 51″ asked Mr. Jopek, a man who believes in the efforts in Iraq and is not in favor of Obama’s positions on the war, what he and his ex-wife think of Obama continually using their son’s name on the campaign trail.

Jopek began by saying that his ex-wife was taken aback, even upset, that Obama has made the death of her son a campaign issue. Jopek says his wife gave Obama the bracelet because “she just wanted Mr. Obama to know Ryan’s name.” Jopek went on to say that “she wasn’t looking to turn it into a big media event” and “just wanted it to be something between Barack Obama and herself.” Apparently, they were all shocked it became such a big deal.

Senator Obama’s inability to even remember Sergeant Jopek’s name during the debate made it appear that the bracelet was just a political prop. However, now with news that the family doesn’t even want their son’s bracelet worn by the Senator, and are upset that Senator Obama uses Sergeant Jopek name in public, makes this appear to be an incredibly cold callous political move.

The clip published yesterday in the article The Presidential Debate and the Bracelet Moment is also being discussed on other blogs.

  3. Obama has no principles no values. He will use anything to be elected.

    Osher D.

  4. First I would like to point out somethings about the radio interview…..

    1. The interview was done with the ex-husband of the woman who gave the bracelet to Obama.

    2. It never stated that the mother of the dead soldier wanted Obama not to wear the bracelet when she gave it to him or talk about it.

    3. Also again this interview is done with the ex-husband and a person who is oppose to where Obama stands on the Iraq war.

You also left out a few things that the ex-husband said in the interview….

Brian Jopek- Because of some of the NEGATIVE FEEDBACK SHE’S GOTTEN on the Internet, you know Internet blogs, you know PEOPLE ACCUSING HER of… OR accusing OBAMA of TRYING TO GET VOTES DOING IT… and that sort of thing.

Mmmm I am wondering why people would be upset with her for giving an candidate a bracelet of a dead soldier…. Mmm maybe CONSERATIVE BLOGGERS or PEOPLE AGAINST OBAMA?

    also…

Brian Jopek- She has turned down any subsequent interviews with the media because she just didn’t want it to get TURNED INTO SOMETHING THAT IT WASN’T.

Mmmm if I was upset that a candidate is wearing a bracelet that symbolizes the death of an soldier of the Iraq war and I don’t want that candidate to wear it wouldn’t I be on all the news outlet bring it out in the open?
Also what does the ex-husband mean by saying “she just didn’t want it to get turned into something that it wasn’t.”? What is he saying? That his ex-wife doesn’t want people to think that she is oppose to Obama or what he stands for. I do believe kmorrison33 know where I am going.

    also….

Brian Jopek- Because SHE IS A Barack Obama SUPPORTER and she DIDN’T WANT TO DO ANYTHING TO SABOTAGE HIS CAMPAIGN so, if he’s still wearing the bracelet then, uh, that of course is entirely up to him.

Oh so she is a Obama supporter. Wow I would have never known that by reading your article.

I also see that you got the negative article about Obama from a CONSERATIVE blog.

    Go figure.

  5. The mother said she gave Obama the bracelet so he would remember her son’s name. Obama did not know her son’s name in front of millions of witnesses.

  6. It’s a shame you would spread a lie like this. Go back and do the correct research. This filth has already been debunked.

  7. Do you plan to report on the mother’s statement to the AP today? Or is the fact that she was “thrilled” Obama mentioned her son at the debate one of those little inconveniences otherwise known as the truth that you don’t feel need updated here in your post?

  8. AP story regarding the Rethuglican bracelet smear:

  9. newsbusters prints lies or partial truths all the time. you can not believe anything they say and I would never cite them for authority on any story.

  10. Based on this and the Rev Wright/ Bill Ayers issues, why would a reasonable person believe anything that Obama says.

And if Obama does get elected for the first time in my life I will not be proud of America. I’ll just continue to cling to my religion and guns!

  11. Once again we now find out the story is false.

Soldier’s mother “ecstatic” about Obama’s bracelet
By DINESH RAMDE | Associated Press Writer
    4:28 PM CDT, September 28, 2008

MILWAUKEE - The mother of a Wisconsin soldier who died in Iraq says she was “ecstatic” during Friday’s debate when Senator Barack Obama mentioned the bracelet she gave him in honor of her son.

Tracy Jopek of Merrill told The Associated Press on Sunday she was honored that he remembered Sgt. Ryan David Jopek, who was killed in 2006 by a roadside bomb.

She criticized Internet reports that suggested Obama exploited her son for political purposes.

She acknowledges e-mailing the campaign in February asking that Obama not mention her son in speeches or debates. But she says Obama’s mention on Friday was appropriate because he was responding after Senator John McCain said a soldier’s mother gave him a bracelet.

Jopek says Obama’s comment rightfully suggested there’s more than one viewpoint on the war.

  12. Have respect!!! Soldiers are heros and should not be spoken about in this manor like during campaigning. Obama is a radical communist scumbag. Just look at his associations in the past radical religion, Bill Ayers (terrorist), and Fidel castros lawyer thats a good resume. Uggg what does Obama stand for besides communism???? Think about it.

  13. President Obama. Get used to it.

  14. Here’s a video with Jopek’s father talking about Obama using his son’s bracelet:

  15. Obama is turning out to be The Big Let-Down of ’08.
Obama kept insinuating that He is The Second Coming but every time we’ve held our breaths waiting for him to change water into wine, we’ve been disappointed. Obama kept telling us to ‘tune in next week!’ and he never delivers, the miracle never comes. There is nothing there.
Obama’s has a problem with clarity. I have systematically studied both his autobiographies and I still don’t know what kind of man I’m dealing with. When he was first showcased on TV, my interest was aroused. I used to find Obama enigmatic, but now he just comes off as vacuous, empty.
Obama’s two books address the questions of “Journey of Discovery to Where?” and “Who Am I?” We can all relate to such pondering. But Obama does not give us an answer. If he has found the answer since publishing those two books two years ago then he hasn’t told us yet.
McCain has been on a longer and harder personal journey. There can be nothing more extreme than surviving daily torture for five years. Can you imagine that? To be beaten day-in and day-out, starved, your hands and legs bound by chains? McCain already knows what he can take, and humbly knows where he breaks. Every man and woman has a breaking point. It is very human. McCain already knows his, even though he held out as long as he could.
What trials or stories of human devastation has Obama endured? I can’t imagine being Black in America is an easy thing. But Obama was raised in Polynesia by white grandparents and then went on to Harvard, community service, the Senate, and now the presidency. Obama’s journey seems to have been very easy. His skin color opened all the right doors for him instead of slamming them shut. Obama didn’t march against segregation. Obama didn’t fight for affirmative action. He planted no tree. He carried no water for that tree. Obama has just come along and picked the fruits. That is easy street. This is not a great American story. This is not a triumph of will over adversity. This is a story of baby-boomer entitlement. This is the story of the yuppy next door. These stories are a dime a dozen on aisle 3 at Whole Foods.
You may agree or disagree with McCain but at least you know where he stands. He has a long track record to judge him by. McCain has a long list of hits and misses. He has made mistakes (like us all) but that is because he had been trying to do things and change things all his life. Obama markets himself as the candidate with an unblemished record, but that is only because he doesn’t have a record. We have nothing to judge Obama by. All he gives us is his word and we are supposed to put all our trust in his future promises. But these promises keep changing: Obama has produced two contradictory promises on Iraq, two contradictory promises on NAFTA, and two contradictory promises on taxes. Are we supposed to judge him by the original promise he made, or by his most recent one? The candidate who flows with the changing winds of polls is the lightweight. That much we know.
I feel very embarrassed for buying into the Obama phenomena. Maybe now that the weather is changing I see things in a new light. I feel sheepish for falling for the marketing pitch. Where do I go to get a refund?
I think that many voters like me are looking for clarity in our next president. I feel I know what kind of man McCain is, and that I can trust him. McCain gets my vote.

  16. Again I would like to point out that Brian Jopek did not give Obama the bracelet. His ex-wife did, and she never told Obama not to wear it (that is coming from the ex-husband).

Also this didn’t become a big deal until the ex-husband went on the radio saying what he did, and CONSERVATIVE bloggers or people against Obama started to make a big fuss about it.

Another thing Tracy gave Obama that bracelet back in Feb of this year and this is the first time that I’ve heard Obama talk about it. So I don’t think he is exploiting the memory of the dead soldier or his family.

Also If talking about the dead soldiers and their bracelets that the candidates wear….isn’t McCain the guilty one because at every campaign stop he always talks about his bracelet to the media. Now who really is exploiting people’s memories?
