The support of Hollywood for Roman Polanski has shown how egregiously out of touch the town has become. Polanski plead guilty to having sex with a 13 year old, then skipped town before sentencing. This case isn’t a close call. It’s not a 19 year old guy with his 17 year old girlfriend. This is a grown man with a child, and the defense that talent, fame, or fortune, should somehow exempt Polanski from the law of the land is ridiculous.
Many find this so disturbing that a petition has been started at The New Agenda stating they want Polanski jailed, and those in Hollywood who support him boycotted. In the real world protecting children from predators has finally become a priority with the passage of laws like Meaghan’s law and implementation of the sex offender registry, it is unfortunate that this is the issue that Hollywood has chosen this issue to take a regressive stance on.

According to a Rasmussen poll out this morning, 78% of those following the Roman Polanski story closely think he should go to prison. Only 8% disagree.
That helps put a bit of an exclamation point on how flyover country feels about Polanski’s raping of a 13 year old girl thirty odd years ago versus the view taken by the Hollywood crowd (Harvey Weinstein, Woody Allen, et al) that petitioned for his immediate release.
